No still air box required for inoculation. No opening the bag. No exposure to ambient air during the riskiest step of the cultivation process.
What the Injection Port Changes
Standard grow bags require you to either inject through the polypropylene wall (works, but adds risk) or open the bag in a SAB or flow hood for inoculation. The injection port eliminates both compromises. The pre-installed self-healing silicone port accepts a syringe needle cleanly and re-seals around it after withdrawal — meaning your substrate stays fully enclosed from sterilization through colonization, with zero air exposure during inoculation.
This is the preferred setup for liquid culture (LC) inoculation, and a significant upgrade for any operation where flow hood access is limited or where contamination during inoculation has been a persistent issue.

Inoculation Workflow
- Fill bag with substrate, seal the top with a heat sealer
- Sterilize per standard autoclave procedure (see notes below)
- Cool completely to room temperature
- Flame-sterilize your syringe needle or wipe with isopropyl alcohol
- Insert needle through the silicone injection port — no tent, no SAB needed
- Inject liquid culture or spore solution, withdraw needle — port self-seals
- Mix/shake substrate to distribute inoculant, set for colonization

Sterilization Notes
- The injection port is autoclave-safe — sterilize the entire bag as normal
- Wrap the filter patch in aluminum foil before autoclaving to prevent moisture saturation
- Sterilize at 15 PSI / 121°C — 2.5 hours for grain loads, 2 hours for sawdust substrate
- Cool fully before inoculating — the injection port silicone is heat-resistant but inoculating warm substrate promotes contamination
- After injection, the silicone port re-seals completely — no tape or additional sealing required
